The rich indians began attending the English medium schools opened by the British and became 'Indian in colour but English in thought and taste'. Ironically it was these educated indians who spread the ideas of liberty and equality of humans among the common people. As the Indians got educated, they found out about the great thinkers of that time who talked about the equality of humans and freedom of nations. A spirit of nationalism grew in the educated indians.
