Moamoria rebellion took place because of the uprising of Paiks which later on led the formation of Matak Kingdom. Almost 90% of the people of Ahom Kingdom was working as a paik and in which they had to work voluntarily for the Ahom king for 4 months every year and the remaining 8 months they had to look after the family of other paiks who were working for the king.

On the other hand, the upper castes and priests were enjoying a lavish life and getting free land and high ranks in the army. This made one thing clear that there was no appreciation for merit and having skills. As a result, people having poor administrative skills got high position in the kingdom which led the downfall of Ahom kingdom.
