Rather than long speeches the people will be more convinced about a matter ,if they see a painting.

The contribution of the Sculptors and Painters are of 3 ways.

1.They prevented over western intrusion in arts and preserved Indian culture. Such a swadheshi alternative influenced people psychologically People understood that cultural and artistic hegemony is as equal as economic hegemony.

Resistance through such cultural alternatives beacame a headache to Britishers who was trying to inject their culture to form a class of people supporting them.

This resistance later contributed in intensifying nationalism.

2.Artists like Tagore who was world known bridged together western and indian style. This invited the attention of artists around the world and they came to know about the plight of Indians..

3.There was a gap existed between the learned upper class and uneducated lower class. Patriotic songs , paintings sculptures bridged the both classes.

The paintings of Abhiandra Nath Tagore , Nandalal Bose depicted the plight of Indians. The paintings depicted the hardships of people of one part of the country and was shown to the other parts. This made people consider and care for their brothers and the various ends. Problems of the people of one part was taken as “ours “ by the other part.

No one can ever deny the role the painters and sculptors played in Indian struggle for independence.
