Indigo planters started a revolt in the year 1859 in the state of Bengal.  The peasants boldly refused the British orders and decided that they would not sow a single seed of the Indigo plant.  They continued this non violent revolt by boycotting Indigo plantation.  Many farmers were ruthlessly executed during the revolt which created a huge stir in the media.
