The Mesolithic age mark a shift from the Paleolithic age as:

The period witnessed rapid development of grasslands which in turn increased the number of grass eating animals.

The rise in grass eating animals made life easy for the early men.

The vast grasslands also contained grain bearing grasses such as wheat and barley and people started collecting these grains and used them as food.
