Introduced in the year 19098, the Morley-Minto reforms were the policy of the British government to controlling the Extremists and to soothe the Moderates. Through these reforms, a system of separate constituencies was presented by the government. The colonial government made separate constituencies for Hindus and Muslims. For this, all the Muslims were classified into separate electorates from where only Muslim nominees could contest polls. This prerequisite was addressed to cut-off the Muslims population from the Indian Nationalist movement, by administering them as separate from the rest of the country and to check the unity of Hindu-Muslim, for which the Congress was trying to nourish.
