How did the new reading culture in bringing the french culture

France is a country known for arts  the people in france respected habit of reading as novels were used a lot for entertainment at that time so it brought patriotic ideas into people ofrom france and brought french culture

This question can come for both 5 and 3 marks,

firstly for 5 marks, the answer should be :-


The new reading culture helped in bringing the conditions for french revolution as  :-


> Print popularised the ideas of the Enlightenment thinkers

1 ) The writings of the french writers provided a critical commentary on tradition, superstition and despotism.

2 ) They sought for rule of reason rather than custom, and demanded the rights to be based on reason and rationality.

3 ) They questioned the sacred authority of Church and the despotic power of the state, thus eroding the legitimacy of a social order based on tradition.

4 ) New french writers liked Voltaire, Rousseau and Montesquieu started publishing their ideas which gave the people a new perception which was quite critical and rational.


> Print created a new culture of dialogue and debate

1 ) All values, norms and institutions were re-evaluated and discussed by a more rational and reasonable thinking public.

2 ) Within this, they created new ideas of social revolution.


> Outpouring of literature

1 ) There was an era of outpouring of literature that mocked the royal standards and criticised them.

2 ) They raised questions about the existing social order.

3 ) Cartoons and caricatures depicted that monarch remained absorbed in sensual pleasures while common people suffered intense hardships.

4 ) This literature was circulated underground and led to growth of hostile sentiments against the monarchy.



This question can even come for 3 marks, then it should be answered in the following manner :-

1 ) People now started questioning the royal standards with a new critical view based on reason and rationality.

2 ) They started inspecting the pre-existing norms and beliefs which further created the culture fir dialogue and debate.  

3 ) Print gave the people a new view that made them understand the hardships faced by common people and led to the growth of hostile sentiments against the monarchy.
