Non cooperation (Ashayog) and Non violent (Ahimsa) were the two weapons of Mahatma Gandhi during the freedom struggle. He was not in favor of Violence during protest in Indian National Movement.

Gandhiji and Non cooperation movement

  • It was in 1920, that Mahatma Gandhi set to launch Non Cooperation Movement. It became a political campaign when launched and based on the ideology of boycotting the British Goods and use the Swadeshi products.
  • During this movement, Gandhiji urges every Indian to use Khadi and not the British imported goods. The appeal of Gandhiji was so applauded that even the students boycott their school, Government servant refuse to work in the Government organisation.
  • It was also led the principle of getting "Poorna Swaraj" or Complete Independence in India from the British Government. It was seen as the outrage of Jallianwala Massacre and the Khilafat Movement. The participation of both Hindus and Muslims in the movement also exemplify the unity of both the religious group.
  • Gandhiji called off this movement as it was taken the form of violence and the picketing and burning of liquor shops and other British products in 1922. The famous reason of calling off this movement was Chauri Chaura Incident.

Gandhiji and Non violence

  • As a worshipper of Satyagraha and Ahimsa, all the movement of Gandhiji was enshrined with the principle of non violence. Gandhiji urge every Indian to lead the movement with peace and Non violent methodology thus creating no excuse for the Britishers to arrest any person on the charges of criminal Intent.
  • From Champaran Satyagraha to Quit India Movement, it was by the principle of Gandhiji that all protests should be done in peaceful way, not harming any other person.
  • Therefore, every movement led by Gandhiji was based on the principle of Non violence.
