From the early 19th century many British officials thought that Indians were dark and superstitious people..to change that Thomas Babington Macaulay proposed that western learning was more scientific and the Indians could read some of the finest works that was ever produced..since then people were taught English even though Mahatma Gandhi was against it because he thought that this made them aliens in their own lands and will ignore their traditional customs and traditions..
