Under the Inland Emigration Act of 1859, the plantation workers were not even allowed to leave the tea gardens without permission (which was hardly given to anyone ) .This was not less than being a puppet worker who could not even eat by their own will.

But a hope arose. When they heard of non cooperation movement , they gathered courage , left the plantations and headed home . They thought that their good days were about to come when they would be given land in their own villages .

But poor plantation workers could never reach their destination . They were either stopped by police or unmanly beaten up.

However they couldn't get what they had wanted but still they responded against the discrimination by following non cooperation.
