The reason behind the Rashtrakutas to become powerful:

  • The lineage of Mauryan in some inscriptions of the Ashoka period there mentioned Rathika who were the later Rashtrakutas. Dantidurga who was a feudatory of the chalukya started ascending by helping the Chalukya winning battles against the incoming Arab armies followed by defeating kingdoms of Kosala Malawi.
  • They establishing friendly connections with the Pallava king and overthrowing the Chalukya king thereby forming the foundation stone for the Rashtrakutas. The final end of the Chalukya dynasty was paid by Krishna I.
  • He expanded his territory by conquering the Gangan Konkan Vengi plains. His son Govinda II, however, helped certain Ganga kings to have their throne back from his brother but he was soon defeated by his brother Dhruva Dharavarsha who succeeded in overthrowing many dynasties of the North West, etc.
  • He also credited for establishing the tripartite rule thereby marking golden era of the Rashtrakutas. Grandson Amoghavarsha-I was credited for flourishing art literature of the dynasty.
