how did the size of landholding decrease due to inheritance

take an example like if you have hundred acres and two child then it will go to them 50-50 and will become 50 acres .now consider each have two more kids then each kid will get 25 acres in this way landholding will go on decreasing with inheritance ( children s or offsprings)
