This movement sought to transform the mindset of the people by over-hauling oppressive customs and traditions and mainstreaming the masses from lower strata(untouchables) into the freedom movement.
Anti caste movements like Temple entry movement, led by ramaswamy naicker, Vaikom satyagraha(blessed by gandhiji), satyashodak samaj, prarthana mandali in bombay preached essential equality of all.
Religious movement led by swami Vivekananda and brahmo samaj movement by Ram mohun Roy challenged the Orthodox and conservative elements of brahminical domination and encouraged logic and reason as the commanding voice.
