The villagers did not do anything to help the mother. They reacted unscientifically to the scorpion bite. They gave their own superstitious, philosophical and religious interpretations for the incident. They believed the scorpion bite was universe’s plan to cure the mother of her previous birth sins. They believed it will purify her flesh and soul. They did nothing except philosophizing or lecturing. They just sat around the writhing mother and gave their opinions.

Answer:

To immobilise the Evil One who had gotten inside the mother's body, they chanted the name of God. According to legend, the mother's pain from the scorpion burns away her sins from her first birth.

Explanation:

They responded to the scorpion bite in an irrational manner. In an effort to relieve his mother's suffering, he also phoned the holy man. To counteract the poison's effects, he even applied a little amount of paraffin oil and set a flame to the sting.

The mothers would experience some peace if the scorpion were rendered paralysed, and the community prayed. They thought that as the scorpion moved, the mother's discomfort would continue to worsen. Additionally, this would cause the poison to spread throughout her body.

What methods did the people use to look for scorpions, and how did they respond when none were discovered?

The villagers searched for the scorpion but were unsuccessful. The speaker suggests that there is still evil in the home even after the scorpion fled by adding, "With lights and with lanterns making gigantic scorpion shadows on the sun-baked walls."
