Helen learned many things by making signs of alphabet with the help of her hands which her teacher taught her .she made signs of alphabets on others hand and communicated in this way when she wanted food.
At 19 months old Helen Keller contracted an unknown illness described by doctors as "an acute congestion of the stomach and the brain" which might have been scarlet fever or meningitis. The illness left her both deaf and blind.
Helen at the age of five was able to communicate via signs with a six year old child Martha Washington, the daughter of her family cook, who was able to understand her signs. Seven years old Helen had her own 60 signs which she did with her hands to communicate with her family. Helen also could make signs of alphabet on others hand and communicated in this manner. This was how Helen Keller communicated normally at home and asked for food.
