Answer:

Arctic temperatures are very low, especially in winter when it stays dark for months. Even in summer, the soil is frozen below the surface. The only plants that survive here are mosses and small clumps of flowering plants. These store nutrients to keep them alive through the winter. They grow clustered together and use hairs or dead leaves to protect new shoots, from the icy wind. Where plants can't survive there are tough, slow-growing lichens. Each lichen is a fungus with algae in its tissues, so lichens produce their food as plants do. Animals need to keep warm to survive in the Arctic. Reducing heat loss lavers of fat and the air trapped in fur, are both good insulators they also cut heat loss. Small animals can burrow under snow to get extra insulation. They can keep warm by huddling together.
