Answer:
Due to the rotational movement of the electrons (revolution around the nucleus at high speeds in the outer shells especially) creates a somewhat magnetic force (electrostatic force of attraction) in an atom. This causes the atoms of the same substance to come close together and group in this force of attraction. This force of attraction varies from substance to substance, metals having the highest electrostatic force of attraction (that's why they have high melting point).
Now this causes grouping of atoms into molecules. This grouping of atoms by the electrostatic force of attraction can be further theorized as - The attraction between atoms caused by the donation/sharing of electrons, depending on the number of electrons in the valence shells. That's how molecules of different elements and compounds are formed. Electrovalent compounds have a really high electrostatic force of attraction compared to the covalent ones due to high EN difference (Electronegative difference). Electronegativity is defined as the tendency of an atom to gain electrons from other atoms.
Now, these molecules attract each other by the inter-molecular force of attraction. This type of force of attraction is also called 'dipole-dipole attraction'. Basically, any molecule can have some amount of positive charge and negative charge at its two 'poles'. This is caused by the EN of the atoms. Some atoms in a molecule tend to 'attract' the electrons towards themselves, causing the formation of slight delta charges on itself (delta negative) and on other atoms (delta positive). Here, delta denotes a negligible quantity. This polarity causes the attraction of other molecules, where the two opposite ends of the delta charges attract each other (just like magnets).
This attraction of molecules on a large scale with their specific arrangements, with respect to their surroundings and temperature causes the formation of solids.
Hope this helped.
