For the prepration of food,
Autotrophs obtain CO₂ directly
directly from the atmosphere from the stomata by the process of diffusion
But, they cannot obtain N₂ directly from the atmosphere, or rather they cannot synthesis the N₂ in the air , as they are bonded by triple bonds and hard to break. They obtain N₂ from the soil, where it has already been broken down by the nitrogen-fixing bacteria.
