Heya,
The light rays that strikes an object and then enters into the eye through the pupil of the eye, which is the opening of eye and from there the light pass through the eye lens and then forms image on the retina that is at the back of eye. In this retina there are rod and cone cells that detect the light and image and send this through optic nerve in the form of electric signal to the brain. And in brain the image is interpreted and we get to understand what the image is of...by this we get to see and understand the image.

Actually, the eyes do not see, it is the brain that sees!
First the rays of light from an object enters the eye through the transparent parts of the eye (Conjunctiva, Cornea). Then it falls on the lens through the pupil. The lens focusses it to the innermost layer of the eye containing photosensitive cells, the retina. There is a spot of best vision in the retina called Yellow spot or the Macula Lutea. The centre of this part is called as Fovea centralis. The rays are focussed here and these are converted into impulses, which are sent to the optic lobe of the cerebrum of the brain through the optic nerve, arising from the blind spot. Thus, we can see the image after the impulses reach the brain.
