first you've got to select the growth medium; soil or soiless. as was mentioned above soil medium always tend to build up salt which need to be regulated. then decide on the nutrients regime. salt treatment is done as adding yet another nutrient but at high concentration. NaCl is used as the agent for salinity. usually it is given at 100 -150 mM concentration for short duration and 50 - 75 mM for long duration studies. however it needs to be adjusted according to the threshold tolerance of your crop. continuous monitoring of pH and conductivity is imperative as alteration of these parameters also induce stress on plant which may mask or aggravate the actual stress of salt. in case of soil it is advisable to do on pots which can be placed on the tray of saline water. water uptake along with salt takes place a perforations under-surface of the pots through soil. hydroponics are most most easiest as you can regulate all aspects.

It depends from the objective of your study. Anyway if you work in a soilless system the best thing to do is to calculate the concentration of salt that you want to apply, weight and dissolve the salt in a given volume of water (possibly distilled/deionized water) and then you can use always that salt water to irrigate the plants. However, depending on the growing media you are using and also from the level of ET in your environment salt can accumulate very fast and plants will be exposed to a higher level of salt. To avoid this you should monitor the EC, use an high percentage of drainage if you are in open cycle management. If you are using a closed cycle system you should monitor the EC and add pure water to avoid salt accumulation.
hope it help!
