Healthy kidneys filter about a half cup ofblood every minute, removing wastes and extra water to make urine. The urine flows from the kidneys to the bladder through two thin tubes of muscle called ureters, one on each side of your bladder.

A kidney is made of numerous microscopic excretory unit called nephrons. Single kidney contain about a million number of nephrons, each approx 3cm long. Each nephron has a cup shaped under end, called BAWMAN'S capsule. It contain a bundle of blood capillaries called glomerulus. The blood entering into the glomerulus carrirs waste materials which are filtered out in the Bawman's capsule. Filtration is possible because the wall of glomerulus capillaries and filtered out in the Bawman's capsule are very thin and selectively permeable .This property of membranes allows water and small molecules in the blood to pass through them.
