When Mendel crossed true breeding tall plants with true breeding dwarf plants, the first progenies ( F 1 Generation) produced had only tall plants. In offsprings the tallness supressed the dwarfness.
Mendel ,therefore, called traits such as tallness ( They appear in F1 generation) dominant and dwarfness ( Which does not appear in F1 generation) as recessive.
