a) Reaction of metal carbonates and metal hydrogen carbonates : Acids on reaction with metal carbonates or hydrogen carbonates give salts of respective metals, Carbon dioxide and water.

= >Metal carbonate/Metal Hydrogen carbonate+Acid----->

Salt +CO2+H2O

Example:

2HBr(aq)+Na2CO3(aq)------>2NaBr(aq)+H2O(l)+CO2(g)

HBr(aq)+NaHCO3(aq)--------->NaBr(aq)+H2O(l)+CO2(g)

Metal carbonates or metal hydrogen carbonates + acid ------->

Salt + carbon dioxide + water.

Ex:

1. Na2CO3(s) + 2HCL(aq)--------> 2NaCL(aq) + H2O(l) + CO2(g)

2. NaHCO3(s) + HCL(aq)---------> NaCL(aq) + CO2(g) + H2O(l)

Hope this helps
