By spore formation.

The cell contents of the organism shrink, an outer wall forms for nechanical protection. As soon favorable conditions resume the spore germinates.

Why this happens;

As the spore is non motile and the cell contents shrink, its metabolism declines and as a result its energy requirements declines. So it goes into a state of hibernation
