Every organism in every ecosystem depends on other organism for their survival. Here the pond is a freshwater ecosystem.

Here in the pond ecosystem there are four types of habitats. They are Surface film, shore, open water and bottom water.

Here the shore habitat consists of plants like grasses, algae and many other that depends on the water and shallowness of the pond, soil type and rock surface.

Next the surface film habitats. It consists of insects and organism which can float and steer on the surface of the water. They depend on the plankton in the pond and dead organisms for their food.

Open water habitats consist of organism like fishes that depends on the plankton, zooplankton and insects for their food.

Bottom water habitats consist of organism like earthworms, insects, snails and rat-tailed maggot which depend on remaining organisms of the pond for their food.
