I feel that I need to start off by saying this: Christopher Columbus did NOT discover the Earth was round.

Long ago people believed that earth was flat. But some were very curious and found that earth was sphere in shape by looking at lunar eclipse; and also Columbus found that the earth was sphere as he traveled towards west of Europe to reach India and finally ended up in Caribbean islands. In this way people came to know that earth was sphere in shape.
