when the pollen grains from the stigma of a flower which are male come in contact with the anthers if the same flower called self fertilization.
whereas if the pollen grains come in contact with the anthers of another plant it is called cross pollination.This causes flowers to grow which later grow into fruits or are carried away by the force of nature and thus the seeds which were result of pollination make new plants
