- Digestion is intracellular
- Muscle and nerve cells are absent.
- Appendages are absent in poriferans.
- Poriferans contain the special cells called collar cells or choanocytes.
Coelenterata (Cnidaria)
- They have a tissue level of organisation.
- Their bodies have only a single opening.
- Digestion is both extracellular and intracellular
- Muscle and nerve calls appear for the first time in coelenterata.
- Coelenterata have appendages in the form of tentacles
- Coelenterata contain the special cells called Cnidoblasts which contains nematocysts
