Prions are infectious agents entirely composed of a protein material that can fold in multiple, abstract ways to spread a disease. They affect the structure of the brain or neural tissue. No effective medical treatment is known to stop the growth or increase of the material. The illness is progressive and the result is fatal in most of the cases.
