How do prop roots help the plant?​

Prop roots anchor the plants by providing extra support. For plants like fig, which are tall, slender trees with lots of branches radiating outwards, Other times they support trees on unstable grounds or submerger conditions, like in mangroves; In mangroves, they also helps the plant roots to breath.
