Termites eat wood that basically contains cellulose and they themselves don’t have any enzymes for its digestion. The protists living in their gut secretes cellulase enzyme to digest cellulose. Now one interesting thing to ask is that how did these protists come inside the termite’s body?
They enter inside the gut when the mother termite feeds the baby termites on its excretory materials which contain protists.
