It is because of his flourishing business that Antonio and Bassanio reach out to Shylock to aid their necessity of three thousand Ducats. Shylock is also a very clever businessman who will not take any losses in his business which he makes very clear in his bond statements. Hence, for Shylock money is not just a matter of business but a matter of his Jewish Pride.
