sol is a colloid in which tiny solid  particles are dispersed in a liquid medium.eg-ink,soap solution, starch solution, and most of paints.
gel is a semi solid colloid . here there is a continuous network of solid particles dispersed in liqiud. eg-jellies,gelatine,hair gel
the basic difference is that in a sol tiny solid particles are dispersed but in a gel a network and that to a continuous network of solid particles is dispersed
