Sound travels from one place to another through a medium. The medium may be either solid, liquid or gas. When an object vibrates it sets the neighbouring particles into motion. The vibrating particle sets another particle into motion. This process happens till the sound reaches our ear.

Hope this answer helps you.

Answer:

Sound starts with a vibration caused by energy and radiates out the source of the energy.

The vibration is passed from one molecule to another as they bump around and a sound wave is produced.

The energy received by each molecule is passed on, or transmitted but the molecule itself stays in the same place and vibrates back and front.

Sound vibrations move through solids, liquids and gases but they cannot travel through empty space (vacuum).

Sound energy travels much slower than light energy.

Sound travels at about 340 metres per second in air, about 1500 metres per second in water, and even faster in a solid.

Light travels at 300000 kilometres per second.

Therefore, we see things long before we hear them.

Example :

Sound travels faster through wood than air. Sound travels fast through wood because it is a solid and the molecules are close together. Sound travels slow through air as the molecules are far apart.
