Hey!
The opening and closing of stomata is controlled by the guard cells. In the day the stomata opens for the process called 'photosynthesis'.At night the stomata closes to avoid losing water when photosynthesis is not occurring. In light, guard cells take up water by osmosis pulling apart the inner walls to open the stomata. In darkness water is lost and the inner walls move together closing the pore.
Hope It helps!!!
