The transfer of characteristics from parent to offspring is called heredity. The characteristics are transferred by genes.

Chromosomes are present in the nucleus of the cell which contains DNA which contains genes.

All the genetic information is stored in the gene which is transferred from parent to embryo/offspring. A gene can mutate to various forms called alleles
