Generally just like any other living being elephants too desire freedom and since they are not domestic pets commonly kept by humans, these creatures crave the need of freedom and wildlife living style more than other animals.
When chained these animals feel sad and unhappy and may react in adverse behavior which could either go two ways they would become aggressive or they could lie around depressed for their lack of movement.
