Sewage treatment is done in two steps.

1.First is primary treatment which removes only solid waste that floats in the water.

2. Secondary treatment is also known as biological treatment in which microorganisms are used.

Flocs are used to digest the organic matter in secondary treatment.
Flocs are masses of bacteria associated with fungal filaments.
