How do the properties of iron change when: (i) small quantity of carbon, (ii) nickel and chromium are mixed with it.

1) pure iron is not used because it is very soft and stretches easily When hot so some amount of carbon is added to it(0.5%)to make it strong.2)when iron is mixed with nickel and chromium, stainless steel is formed which is hard and does not rust. iron is mixed with some other substance to change its properties
