The dams are barriers which are built across flowing water often forming an impoundment or a lake .
When these dams are built the natural flow of water is effected and the water gets stagnant . Since the water doesn’t flow all the silt brought by the river from the piedmont Plains get sedimented at the dam .even when the dams release water the silt gets sedimented at the bottom and it won’t move further foreword . So due to this the silt which is carried by the river water will not be carried forward and the flood plains could not get the deposits of silt .
