HCL in presence of MnO2 releases nascent greenish yellow chlorine but H2SO4 doesn't.

Answer:

Explanation:

When MnO2 reacts with HCl,

MnO2 + 4HCl ---> MnCl2 + Cl2 + 2H2O

here, chlorine is liberated, which is greenish in colour and has a punget smell

When MnO2 reacts with H2SO4,

2MnO2 + 2H2SO4 → 2MnSO4 + O2 + 2H2O

here, pale pink manganese sulphate is formed

This is how you differentiate HCl and H2SO4 with MnO2
