A mobile telecommunication service provider, in association with Patna traffic police, ran a campaign to promote responsible mobility for road safety and to educate people on the importance of following traffic guidelines on Friday.
The programme was held at the office of the Patna senior superintendent of police.
A walkathon was also organised to emphasise fundamental traffic rules and to highlight the basic precautions a commuter must take while on the move.
A.K. Ambedkar, inspector-general (Patna zone), and officials of the mobile service provider jointly flagged the campaign. City superintendent of police (SP) Shivdeep Lande, Patna traffic SP Prantosh Kumar Das, rural SP Harikishore Rai and assistant SP Vivekanand were also present on the occasion.
The participants in the walkathon distributed leaflets to citizens and displayed placards to promote "absolute safety rules".
Appreciating the initiative taken by the mobile service provider, Ambedkar said: "An alarming rise in road accidents underlines the need for disciplined driving and stringent adherence to traffic rules. Action should be taken if anyone violates traffic rules on the roads. Nobody should be exempted."
City SP Lande emphasised the need to implement the traffic rules strictly and said: "It's a matter of concern to see the ever-increasing rate of deaths in road accidents in our state. I urge drivers, especially the youngsters, who have just got driving licences, to look after themselves and not to mess around on the roads. Road safety should not remain a programme but it should become a habit. I am looking forward to see better results."
"We have always believed in reaching out to people and creating awareness on crucial social issues," said mobile company official Raj Shekhar.
