To find the oxidation number of Chromium in K^2Cr^2O^7 , perform the following steps :

● Put all the valencies and take the valency of Chromium as 2x.

● That is ( +1 ) × 2 + 2x + ( -2 ) × 7 = 0

▪ 2 + 2x + ( - 14 ) = 0

▪ 2 + 2x - 14 = 0

▪ - 12 + 2x = 0

▪- 12 - 0 = - 2x

▪ - 12 = - 2x

▪ x = - 12 / -2

▪ x = 6

● Hence the valency of chromium is + 6

● But in this case , it would be + 3 as there are two atoms of Chromium ( + 6 / 2 )
