In the eye there are two types of cells:
1) the rod cells
2) the cone cells
The rod cells helps us see in the dark while the cone cells help us see in light.
We are able to see beautiful things around us during the day because of the action of the cone cells. Light gets reflected of the object, enters the eye and is sent to the optic nerve which in turn send the image to the brain where it is identified.
At night due to the darkness our visibility is reduced but however is not absent. The rod cells come into action at night. We will see the objects around us at night too but they will appear dull and not as bright as when viewed in day.
Hope this helped!
