put this value in equation 2

y =5

anf then put value of y in any of above equation you get

x-y = 4

x-5 =4

second method elimination method-

in this method we eliminate any of variable ex

take same equations

x+y =14

x-y=4

we can eliminate x or y by multiplication , addition or subtraction

let we eliminate x from above equation

subtract x-y = 4 from x+y = 14

x+y - (x-y) = 14-4

x+y-x+y=10

2y=10

y=10/2

y=5
