How do you find the oxidizing and reducing agent in an equation?

Answer:

You have not to find. U simply get it. Means assume that any element is CO and it will become C then it is reducing agent bcoz it make O disappear. And similarly if their is element C and it will become CO then it is oxidising agent.

  1. Substance that oxidizes other substance is called oxidizing agent
  2. Substance which is receiving electrons is oxidizing agents
  3. Eg:- H+ gains one electron and forms H2 in reaction of breakdown of HCl

Reducing agents :-

  1. Substance that reduce other substance is called reducing agent
  2. Substance that provide electrons in reaction r reducing agents
  3. Eg:- Cl - loses one electron and forms Cl2 in the reaction of breakdown of HCl

Reaction :-

Thermal decomposition

HCl --> H2 + Cl2
