How do you reduce a fraction for it to become a mixed number?

take an eg of  17/4 
  Divide the numerator by the denominator:
  17 ÷ 4 = 4, with a remainder of 1
  The quotient, 4, is the whole number. The remainder, 1, is the numerator. The denominator remains 4.
17/4 = 41/4

take a fraction like 7/6 than divide 6/7 than the reminder is 1. then  mixed fraction is 1 1/7
