Answer:

If you want to draw lifelike portraiture, knowing how to draw facial features is essential. Below, artist and instructor Lee Hammond shares tips and techniques for drawing realistic faces with graphite pencil, excerpted from her book, Lee Hammond’s All New Big Book of Drawing.

In this step-by-step guide, Lee will teach you how to recreate every aspect of your model’s face: the eyes, nose, cheeks, and mouth. So you understand where we’re heading in this tutorial, here’s our finished product first.

Answer:

The first thing to consider is drawing proportions.

when drawing anything you have to get the proportion right, to archive that, you can aid your drawing with the use of grid line for drawing accurate proportion or draw with freehand if you have the ability.

Use the right tools for your drawing

I didn't realize the importance of this until I experimented with different tools myself. For example, I use different types of erasers to get the right textures and tones. Many other accessories like blending tools, type of pencil, etc. and how skillfully you put it to use, will decide the outcome.

Give maximum attention to detail

I think this is one major factor that conventional drawing artists ignore. Every fine detail which you try to translate onto paper by using the tools at your disposal, will impart reality to your drawing and transform them into life-like sketches and try to see what other are not seeing, by taking a closer look at the subject image you are drawing

what kind of paper you use

For realistic art, you must use thick paper because sometimes we might need watercolors or markers in our drawing it might spoil the thin paper

a lot of patience

Drawing realistic art demands a lot of patience and practice to gain mastery.

what to draw

you have to know what to draw first take a small object to draw then with practice you will make a big one with realistic effect.

If you choose a big object you may lose interest in drawing because it not easy to draw a perfect picture

Here is one of my example of a step by step drawing.

Medium; charcoal and graphite pencil.
