"Iodine solution" is used to test the presence of starch in leaves.
Process: 
(1) heat the leaf in boiling water for 30 seconds.
(2) heat that leaf in boiling ethanol for a few minutes.
(3) wash that leaf with water and spread it onto a white tile.
(4) now drop some iodine solution onto that leaf.

Wait for a few minutes, now the parts of that leaf which contain starch will turn blue-black.
