How do you think the particles in a substance behave when we give them more energy ?

when we supplied a substance with energy then the particles within them ( may be atoms , molecules or subatomic particles like electrons ) starts vibration due to that amount of external energy more vigorously. then situations arising in case of insulators, conductors and semi conductors would be different. for example on supplying more specific energy to insulator conduction can't take place but in case of semi conductors a specific amount of electrons jump to conduction band utilising that energy thus conduction happens.
